"Golfing Green" was created as an Exam game for UTas KIT109, Semester 2, 2020.


Controls

Use your mouse to aim. Click and hold the mouse to charge up your swing.

The more power you have built up, the larger your power meter will grow.

Your power meter will point in the direction that you're aiming.

You will not be able to shoot again until the ball has come to a complete rest.


Aim of the Game

The aim of the game is to get your ball in to the hole in as few shots as possible.

The hole is always located at the base of the flag!

Ball aiming and shooting
Shoot towards mouse. Strength depends on duration of click. Ball is shot once mouse is released.
Ball aiming line
Line shows direction of shot. Line length represents shot strength.
Ball sunk
When the ball collides with hole, show end of level text, then move to next hole.
Ball reset
Ball resets when off screen.
Ball stopping
Ball stops moving when touching ground and at low speed.
Extra Functionality

Visual Style
Game is aesthetically pleasing, and levels play well.
Divot Particles
When ball is shot, a suitable particle effect is shown.
TrailA basic trail follows the ball when shot.
Post Processing
A vignette effect has been added to work with the chosen aesthetic.
User Interface(All Levels)
Title Screen

In-game UI
In-game UI shows the current hole's shots and Par.
Start of level text
Display a message for 3 seconds: hole number, brief description of that level's mechanics and par for this hole. The text is also Animated.
End of level text
Display a message for 1.5 seconds after sunk. Message is from a random set ("well done!", "great!", "weird!"), plus how far over par they are using appropriate golf terminology. Text is animated in and out.

Note; in the table below, there are some holes missing as they were not completed in the current build of the game.

Level 1
A simple level to introduce the core mechanics
Level 3
A larger maze level with a camera that follows the ball.
Created via Tilemap.
Level 4
Hit a door 3 times to destroy it. The door shows more damage on each strike.
Level 5
Hit a series of 3 Switches to open the door blocking the flag. Each switch shows an alternative sprite once struck.
Level 7
Climb the sticky walls to find a path to the flag.
Level 9
Flip the switch to invert the world and access the flag on the ceiling.
